It sounds too cheap!

If a wedding photography package sounds too cheap….it quite possibly is!

Occasionally I get couples requesting a price list and then returning a week later saying that they like my photos but X Studio or Studio Y are offering the same wedding photography but at half the price. Can I possibly match it?  Of course I can, but I’ll hire a student with a crappy kit lens and wish them alot of luck!  It doesn’t sound like a good idea – mainly because it’s not!  Plus, it’s my name attached to the brand and I don’t like outsourcing my photography – I like to shoot each wedding myself!

One studio in Melbourne that will beat my prices every time is Dreamlife.  EVERY time. In fact, they’re about half my prices!  Yes, that would make a big difference to your budget and maybe allow for a videographer too.  But ask yourself this, HOW are they making their prices so much more affordable than other photographers? Before you go any further I suggest you google ‘wedding snapper reviews’ and then ‘dreamlife melbourne reviews’ and read both sets of Google reviews.  Now, I don’t think I need to add any further comments to that evidence, and I acknowledge that Dreamlife do indeed have some great reviews. Some, but not all….

I’m not singling Dreamlife out in particular. I’m just trying to make a point about doing your research in all areas before committing to a photographer for your wedding.

Are you having trouble seeing the wood for the trees? Try asking yourself these questions : What does your gut instinct say?  Does it all feel too good to be true? Do you love the photos or is the fantastic price clouding your judgment? Do you feel confident handing over your hard earned cash as a deposit? Is the price too good to be true?

If your wedding photographer is too cheap, my guess is that they either enjoy eating baked beans every night or they’re cutting some major corners with either their equipment, level of ability or final product.  I’m happy to be shown evidence to the contrary, but in my experience that seems to be a fair assessment of the situation.

In closing, if you like my photos but don’t have a large budget to work with, please do get in touch to tell me what you have planned for your wedding.  I can promise you that I won’t be matching any of Dreamlife’s prices but I hope to be able to offer you a price that keeps both parties happy!

How much does a wedding photographer cost?

Occasionally, even before people have looked at my photographs I’m often asked how much a wedding photography service costs.
I’m guessing that if you’ve found this page you’re pondering the same question!

Well you’ll be glad to hear that I’m not the most expensive in Melbourne. That honour goes to some of those photographers with flashy shop fronts in Docklands, Brunswick and Fitzroy.

Neither am I the cheapest Melbourne wedding photographer out there with that dubious award going to some of the ‘weekend warriors’ who have a weekday job and then shoot weddings for fun. I could tell you a few horror stories about that end of the market…

Like most products or services there is a broad middle ground where the majority of the quality yet affordable products sit, and that is where you’ll find me and my services.

My wedding photography packages are comfortably nestled in that mid range, with prices starting at $2000 for weekday weddings which includes your edited high resolution images on a Wedding Snapper branded boxed USB delivered to your home.  Alternatively, we can supply the high resolution image files as a download.

My range of beautiful Queensberry albums start at $3590 and also include all the edited high resolution images for you to print and share with family and friends.  I’m also happy to direct you to some online album makers if you want to save a bit of cash.

If your wedding falls on a weekday in winter then I’m pleased to offer a discount on the usual prices.

Anna & James, Inglewood Estate

Late October saw Anna & James return from Singapore for their wedding at the beautiful Inglewood Estate in the Yarra Valley.  With it’s rolling hills, friendly staff and generally laid back feel, it was one of those weddings where everyone seemed to slow down a bit and get into the vibe of the place.

I think you’d have a hard time being stressed out at Inglewood, and if you were Nick and his team would ensure you unwound pretty quickly!

How to Find Affordable and Best Priced Wedding Photography in Melbourne

A wedding will never be complete without photography coverage. Unfortunately, this can get too pricey at times to the point that couples are left with no choice but to either completely remove it or settle for a low quality service. However, even if you have a tight budget, there’s no reason for you to exclude photography! In fact, there are some things that you can do to help keep the cost down without compromising on the quality.

Careful Planning of Details Can Do the Trick

If you want to reduce your expenses, you always have to plan carefully. This could be done through discussing with your partner and listing down the specific photography items that you want. Then, you can canvass on their prices and choose those that best suit your budget and standards. Properly organizing all of your photography needs will let you enjoy a wonderful wedding coverage and control your expenses at the same time.

Don’t Buy Unnecessary Items

There are instances when photography studios will urge you to get their most expensive package. The offers can be tempting but don’t get lured unless you really plan to purchase them. Go for a package that contains all the specific items that you want to avoid wasting money.

Choose an Experienced Yet Affordable Photographer

As far as hiring a photographer in Melbourne is concerned, it is not a wise decision to settle for an amateur since you might not be satisfied with the pictures you get. Remember to book a professional who can offer a great coverage at an affordable rate so that you will get amazing shots and keep the costs low at the same time.

Go for Digital

Majority of photographs are aware that for some couples, a wedding coverage can get too expensive. This is the reason why many of them offer a digital package wherein all pictures are being compiled either on USB or DVD. Then, the newlyweds will be the ones to print out the images. Through this, couples can get to save a lot of money since they will be paying solely for the services. Once you have finally decided to print out the photos, there are reasonably priced photo printing services that you can find to help you reduce your costs.

Reserve Early

One more useful money-saving tip is to make early reservations for the photography service, preferably a year prior to your set wedding date. What’s with booking early, anyway? By doing this, the service will be less expensive, specifically if the reservation is made during an off-peak season. Booking two or three months away can be expensive already that’s why it is advisable to be prompt to get a bigger discount.

Search for Other Alternatives

The last but not the least, look out for other great options aside from those mentioned above. You have to be efficient and look for practical ways for saving on the costs. At such times, even the tiniest ideas count so ensure that you get the best out of what you find. Use your connections, be resourceful and your wedding will enjoy an affordable photography coverage that captures your special day perfect in every way!

Nat & Kenny’s Melbourne wedding photography

I was tidying up of my rather hectic looking desktop and came across this lovely couple from last year. We chose various sites in and around Melbourne for their wedding photography, including the University, Parliament, Fitzroy Gardens, Docklands and the Botanic Gardens.

I don’t think I ever posted it at the time, so here they are….
