A quickie in Werribee

Get your mind out of the gutter!  I’m referring to a short 2 hour booking with Michelle & Andrew who made a last minute decision to book a photographer for their wedding.

Whilst they had initially thought that friends would be able to take some photos (and they surely did!) they soon realised that there is a definite value in using a photographer who’s sole task is to document the event rather than using a guest who is charged with taking a few snaps in-between trying to enjoy the ceremony and make the most of the bar.

Sure, I’m a little biased as to the value of my profession, but here is what the happy couple had to say following the delivery of their photos:

I didn’t want a photographer at our wedding, I thought my friends could take great snaps, and I also didn’t want someone in the way all the time. Thankfully I changed my mind at the last minute and had Simon take photos for 2 hours at our wedding. I can’t stop looking at the amazing photos that make me relive all the moments from our wedding. Simon was the easiest person to get along with. I can’t recommend Simon highly enough:)

Skimp on some things if your budget is looking a little out of control, but don’t let it be the photography that gets the chop!  Trust me on this – you can thank me for my sage advice later!

The wedding commenced with a late morning ceremony on the lawns of Werribee Mansion overlooking the lake and was swiftly followed by a very relaxed reception in the modern Pavillion overlooking the polo field.  Guests enjoyed drinks on the lawns whilst we scooted around the sprawling gardens for a few photos. Their son Hunter also came along for the ride and a few snaps – what a dude!

Werribee Mansion Weddings

You’ve probably driven past Werribee Mansion on your way to hit the beaches of the Great Ocean Road, but have you considered it as a venue for your wedding?

Built by wealthy sheep farmers and set in 10 acres of formal English gardens the 1870s Italianate mansion is a lovely mix of stunning architecture, manicured lawns and a really relaxed but contemporary hotel and spa.

In fact, with all those ingredients, you could have a relaxing day or two before the wedding to get in the zone, host the wedding (without having to travel anywhere!), and then enjoy a couple more days to further relax and debrief.  Hmm, maybe I am just about ready to get married…

Once you’ve had your fill of the spa, great restaurant and wandering the grounds then you could always stroll over to check out the Open Range Zoo with it’s newly opened Hippo Beach.

I’ve shot several weddings at Werribee Mansion so have a good feel for the good spots for photography as well as what works well in terms of ceremony locations in the grounds, so if you’re considering it as your wedding venue then please do feel free to make contact and ask any questions that you may have.

If you’d like to see some samples of wedding photography at Werribee Mansion then I’d be glad to show you some – simply drop me a line here.   Melbourne photographer Simon Woodcock provides natural and relaxed wedding photography in Melbourne and the Yarra Valley.
