Just beyond St Kilda is the beachside suburb of Elwood which is increasingly popular as a wedding ceremony location as well as wedding receptions.
With Brighton a little further along Beach Road, Elwood still feels like you’re close to the city without quite so much hustle and bustle and none of the sketchy characters you sometimes come across in St Kilda.
In fact, the city provides a great backdrop to this beachside wedding location with it twinkling lights looking great in photographs towards sunset.

One of our favourite wedding venues in Elwood is Sails on the Bay. Recently renovated, the venue offers stunning views across the beach and Port Phillip Bay. Situated next to the lifeguard tower at the beach, it’s in a prime position for wedding photography, with the beach, pier and nearby park easily accessible. It’s great during those summer months when the sun goes down later – it’s easy to skip out of the venue with the bride and groom for a few snaps in the soft light before sunset in between courses without any of the guests really noticing. Also, after some food and a few drinks the couple are usually even more relaxed for the photos and that often really shows through.
If you’re looking for other wedding venues in the area, the next beachside venue towards the city is Riva at St Kilda followed by Encore at St Kilda Sea Baths. In the other direction, the Brighton Savoy is the next venue of note, followed by International Receptions a little inland on Bay Street.
