If a wedding photography package sounds too cheap….it quite possibly is!
Occasionally I get couples requesting a price list and then returning a week later saying that they like my photos but X Studio or Studio Y are offering the same wedding photography but at half the price. Can I possibly match it? Of course I can, but I’ll hire a student with a crappy kit lens and wish them alot of luck!
It doesn’t sound like a good idea – mainly because it’s not! Plus, it’s my name attached to the brand and we only use great photographers to shoot our weddings. If our highly recommended photographers are already booked we will sadly decline other enquiries for that day. With weddings there is no way any studio should be delivering a half-decent job.
There are several wedding photography studios in Melbourne that will beat my prices every time. EVERY time. In fact, they’re about half my prices! Yes, that would make a big difference to your budget and maybe allow for a videographer too. But ask yourself this, HOW are they making their prices so much more affordable than other photographers?
Before you go any further I suggest you google ‘wedding snapper reviews’ and then do the same for another studio that you’re considering and read both sets of Google reviews thoroughly. I mean, read them all – the good, the bad and the in between as that is what will give you the complete picture of a the service you can expect on the day and the resulting wedding photos.
Some of these studios have great reviews amongst their average ones so they’re hitting the mark alot of the time. But not ALL the time!
I’m not singling out any Melbourne based studio in particular, I’m just trying to make a point about doing your research in all areas before committing to a photographer for your wedding.
Are you having trouble seeing the wood for the trees? Try asking yourself these questions : What does your gut instinct say? Does it all feel too good to be true? Do you love the photos or is the fantastic price clouding your judgment? Do you feel confident handing over your hard earned cash as a deposit? Is the price too good to be true? Give them a call – do they sound friendly and interested or does it feel like a sales pitch?
If your wedding photographer is too cheap, my guess is that they either enjoy eating baked beans every night or they’re cutting some major corners with either their equipment, level of ability or final product.
